The National Bank of Greece (NBG), which holds a 46 percent stake in Finansbank, organized a visit to Istanbul of its top executives along with prominent Greek businesspeople and journalists, making up a party of 108 in the Turkish commercial capital between Nov. 18 and 20.
Finansbank said the NBG invited representatives from the top 100 firms in its customer portfolio, representing all sectors in the Greek economy. Visiting businesspeople contacted their Turkish counterparts to explore joint investment and other opportunities for cooperation.

The bank said businessmen from all sectors, from tourism to industry, from agriculture to finance, were briefed on the Turkish economy and new business opportunities.

Briefings were held at Finansbank headquarters in Istanbul. After Fiba Holding and Finansbank CEO Hüsnü Özyegin’s opening remarks, NBG Chairman Takis Arapoglu said Turkey had the biggest market for opportunities in Southeast Europe with its market volume and high growth potential, adding that NBG’s strongest market was also in Southeast Europe.

Turkey’s economy has recorded extremely positive developments in the past few years, and macroeconomic indicators were also positive, Arapoglu said. International investor interest, especially in the finance sector, was increasing in line with positive developments in the economy, he added. Finansbank constituted a perfect platform for a successful entry into Turkey, Arapoglu said.

In this context, Arapoglu pointed to Finansbank’s strong points: its above-average profitability in the banking sector, its strong loan market risk management, its developing branch network and strong alternative channels, its central operational and sophisticated IT services, and its dynamic and professional human resources.

Arapoglu said he believes significant synergy will be released by developing opportunities of cooperation between Finansbank and NBG customers.
